This small, in English landscape style created, park in the (Oud Zuid) district,called the Sarphatipark, is a place to escape hectic city life. The 4 hectares large neighbourhood park became completed in 1885 and was named after Dr. Samuel Sarphati (1813- 1866), a gifted idealist, of Jewish origin, who became meritorious to the city of Amsterdam by setting up all kinds of important and large- scale projects. During WWII, the bust of the Sarphati monument, had to be removed by order of the German occupiers. In the last year of the war the park was used as a rubbish dump. The park regained its old splendour after two redecorations in 1975 and 1994.
Travel from the Airport Train to Central Station, than take tram 25 straight to the Sarphatipark, stop 2de van de Helsstraat. You cross the road and find the hotel in front of the park on nr. 106 Train cost approx. +/- EUR 3 per person.Tram approx.+/- EUR 2 PP Taxi will cost approx. +/- EUR 30 for max. 4 persons.
